The objective of this project was to create and present our own eco-media intervention piece as a part of Northwestern's Media, Earth, and Making a Difference course.
My role in this project consisted of ideating, sketching, and prototyping my media intervention piece as well as presenting the piece to my peers at the end of the quarter.
Type: App Design, UX Design
Duration: May - June 2022
Role: Media, Earth, and Making a Difference Student
Deliverables: Final Prototype, Video Walkthrough
A media intervention piece is described as a media piece that disrupts the current media narrative by introducing a new perspective or alternative story. For my final project in this course, I decided that I wanted to create a media intervention piece that would combine my passion for environmentalism and the design aspect of my major into a multidisciplinary final project.
With that in mind, I decided that I would design an app that encourages people to take on civic action against climate change instead of continuing to participate solely through their consumption choices, which has been the predominant narrative when people ask what they can do to contribute towards eco-activism.
I started by listing out features that I felt the app would need to fulfill the main purpose stated above and proceeded to sketch out some of these features out as seen below:
I then created the final Figma prototype of the app, which has the following features:
